Where Dropbox Transfer fits
Transfer is Dropbox's send-a-copy feature: pick files (usually ones already sitting in your Dropbox), get a link, hand it over. The recipient downloads without touching your actual folders, and without needing an account. If your working life is already inside Dropbox — files there, plan paid for — Transfer is the obvious choice and switching tools for the sake of it would be silly. We'd rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise.
The free-tier gap
The comparison changes on the free plans. At the time of writing, Dropbox Transfer's free tier allows 100 MB per transfer with a fixed 7-day expiry, and both password protection and custom expiry dates sit behind paid Dropbox plans.

When Dropbox Transfer is the better choice
- You already pay for Dropbox. Paid plans lift the size limits well past anything our free tier offers, and add the password and expiry controls. If that's you, use what you're paying for.
- The files already live in Dropbox. Sending from where the file sits beats uploading it somewhere else first.
- Company policy. If your team is standardised on Dropbox, a familiar link may go down better than a new domain.
